A Bright Future

My hexie quilt is starting to take form.  

It is obvious to me that imitating the original is the best plan for these bright and busy fabrics.  The inspiration for this quilt came from a picture taken at the 2011 Sisters, Oregon Outdoor Quilt show.  I have tried to find info on the maker to give credit where credit is due, but to no avail.  If anyone knows anything about this quilt...

please let me know.

All I need is a pattern that will allow me to show off the fabrics.

Carrie Nelson, of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company fame,

has posted a tease for a new pattern called BOUNCE.

I am intrigued by the staggered border and cannot wait for it to be available after Spring market.

My Scarlet Hedgehog bloomed.

Also played around with another annual blooming in the yard.

Coral and lime green seem to be calling my name;

 but anyone who knows me well, knows my favorite hues are orange, lime green and purple!

Perhaps I see an art quilt in my future.

This is my Labor Day weekend project.

I plan to teach it as an introduction to quilt piecing class this fall. My schedule will not permit a full beginning class until 2012.  I have opted to make it a square instead of the long runner seen in the photo.

Advent calendars were always one of my kids' favorites.

It felt good on Friday to hit the trails again.  Only 31 days until we leave for the 13,000 ft mountains of Peru.  I was surprised how winded I got after being away for less than 2 weeks.  We will head to Ouray this next week to get even higher in hopes of building up some excess red blood cells.  I'll need all I can get!

While hiking, I found yet another member of the Gentian family that I will add to my Wildflower page.  I captured a picture of the Fringed Gentian in full bloom.

It is now my second favorite wildflower after the Fairy Slipper Orchid!

The texture of this little mushroom enticed me to play with my macro lens.

And some early fall color...

I am using the new blogger interface.  Uploading photos seems to take forever, but the rest of it is user friendly and a lot cleaner looking from a graphic design standpoint.  Haven't figured out how to access my pages though...may have to switch back in order to add to my wildflower pages.

Just One Star and other things

Moda and their designers, Minnick and Simpson, have joined forces to piece 100 quilts in 100 days for the Quilts of Valor project, Just One Star.

I've made my block and you can also participate!

Lincoln's Platform may be my favorite block so far for the Civil War Quilts BOW.

I got the idea to use a stripe when I saw another participant's block.

Great way to spruce up a simple Churn Dash.

A few finishes...

Finished up two of Renee Plains' patterns for sewing rolls.

They are from her book, A Bird in Hand.

Also, I pieced the third block for the Paris in Fall BOM.

This is a pattern by Sherri K. Falls for This and That.

It is a BOM available at the OWQS.

I love the richness of these Moda French General fabrics.
